Are you a runner who experiences a dull or sharp pain across the front of your knee? It often occurs mid way or at the end of your run. You may find yourself limping about the next few days following your run.
With the weather looking to get warmer, we tend to increase our running mileage, by getting outside and enjoy some vitamin D!
We understand how important your training is and how important it is that we stop your pain from getting worse.
Pain across the front of the knee usually indicates that you are suffering with “Patellofemoral Pain”, commonly known as “Runners Knee”.
We helped lots of London Marathon runners with this exact pain so they could run the marathon pain free!
Patellofemoral Pain is a term used to describe pain at the front of the knee, the joint and surrounding soft tissue.
The pain is multifactoral, meaning many factors can contribute to your pain. Common reasons we see in clinic include, an increase in exercise volume and intensity, muscle weakness, biomechanical abnormalities and poor running technique.
Patellofemoral pain can also cause pain when going up and down the stairs, sitting with your knees bent (movie goers knee), squatting and kneeling.
Rest assured we can help you get back to running with the most effective and efficient solution!
We will treat your knee with an exercise rehabilitation plan to suit your needs. Alongside this, we will provide advice and support on return to running. We often find some Sports Massage helps the surrounding soft tissue to relax and loosen up.
“Booked a session and before any treatment Anna and I discussed what my needs were as I had never had a sports massage before. Anna was excellent at explaining everything and we went ahead with my first session. Anna also prescribed some exercises to do to compliment the massage which I found to be tough but so worthwhile. So, 3 massages later, London Marathon completed and back for a post marathon session. Again my legs felt great after! Really want to thank Anna for her professional attitude and for helping my legs throughout my training!” – Gary.
